The Adventures of a Girl Names Bicycle
The Blessing of the Bikes is featured in Christina Uss's new novel for young readers, The Adventures of a Girl Called Bicycle, available June 2018!
Inspired by her own cross-country cycling adventures, Christina's novel features an introverted twelve-year-old girl named Bicycle. Bicycle has lived at the Mostly Silent Monastery in Washington, D.C., for as long as she can remember. When her guardian insists Bicycle attend a camp to make friends, she sets off on a cross-country journey to San Francisco. There, she hopes to meet her idol—a famous cyclist—at the Blessing of the Bikes, certain he will be the only friend she needs.
Bicycle expects pedaling across the country won’t be much harder than pedaling around the neighborhood—how steep can the Rocky Mountains really be? She has no way of knowing that she’ll end up with a friendly ghost haunting her handlebars and have to contend with a bike-loving horse, bike-hating dogs, bike-crushing pigs, and a bike-stealing bandit. Over the uphills and downhills of her journey, Bicycle discovers that friends are not such a bad thing to have after all.
